Getting content found can be somewhat easy on G+, but only if you’re approaching its features in your favor. Here are a few that will not only get you found by new readers, but also turn the network into the top-referring source of traffic to your blog!!!

The fastest growing social network on the planet is still going strong and with the latest announcement of brand pages, there’s an even greater opportunity to growyour community on Google Plus.

Getting content found can be somewhat easy on G+, but only if you’re approaching its features in your favor. Here are a few that will not only get you found by new readers, but also turn the network into the top-referring source of traffic to your blog:

1. Post Publicly

Google Plus really nailed a feature that was greatly desired by the people of social media: Circles. Limited access dependent of your friend-type status. And I definitely think they’re a great feature to have. But Circles really only benefit me when I’m trying to split people up for viewing purposes. When it comes to posting an update, I always post to the Public. Not to a particular circle. Not to just my friends. I want anyone that could possibly be interested in my blog and my content to find it. And posting to the Public of Google Plus is one of the top ways to get that accomplished. (Not to mention the GREAT perks of Google Search optimization!! You know Plus and Search are like besties, right?)

2. Tag Users In Your Update

When you’re writing a status update for Google Plus, help spread the word by incorporating other Google Plus users. For instance, if you happened to talk about yourfriend in the post or maybe you interviewed another source in your industry, make sure you tag their name in your update because they will see the article directly, and hopefully interact and share it with their communities. Everytime a post is +1′d or commented on, it stays high up in the news stream. So the more people interacting with it, the more new people will see it.

3. Attract Attention With Multimedia

Google Plus is like Facebook in the way that pictures and video win big. So, don’t let those opportunities pass you by. Instead of just posting the link to your article and letting the predetermined post preview show up, be different. Upload a picture that is relevant to your post, and then explain its relation with a shortened link to your post. There is more likely to be curiousity in clicking the link this way.

4. Ask A Question To Drive Conversation Around the Post

Give your Google Plus audience a homework assignment, or rather don’t make them read your post at all. The cool thing about Google Plus and engaging it is how comfortable people are to leave comments on their circles’ status updates. So when you pose a question revolving around the content of your post, lead them to want to readyour post first and then come back and join the conversation, but be sure to welcome people who only want to share their thoughts without reading as well. Interaction on yoursocial network, no matter if you’ve gotten the traffic yet or not, will lead to more traffic and interaction in the future.

5. Fill Out Your Google Profile In It’s Entirety

This is kind of a no-brainer, but you don’t want to have worked so hard to get a bunch of attention from your network and then not have the sufficient information on yourbackground to please your investigative audience. Give them all your contact info and ways to find you so that the interaction doesn’t stop on Google Plus. You want them to have many ways and reasons to visit your blog.

♦ Ghost Code and broken widgets. Were you a member of MyBlogLog? You may have some old code somewhere in there on your source page that may be slowing your pageload time - or worse - become a doorway for a hacker to come in and force a pop-up or a re-direct, stealing your readers!

♦ Re-direct widgets - go to your blog from a public computer - DO NOT log on to your Google or Blogspot or Blogger or WordPress account - as you hover over URLs, look in the lower left hand corner of the browser's bottom bar and see exactly what that link looks like: if there is an http://something else followed by your blog link, something is going on that may be affecting your traffic - a lot of advertisers will shun any blog that supports re-directs!

♦ Flash widgets and music that auto-plays when a visitor lands on your page. SUPER NO-NO! Get rid of any and all such garbage. Your load time will be cut by more than half!

♦ Broken Links - Bing and Google will have trouble with routine website indexes if you have too many. get rid of that old blogroll from 2006 as well! You don't need it! And nobody uses TRACKBACKS much anymore, so delete any code for that feature as well!

♦ Duplicate Content - Crappy Content - Design - Frames- and MORE!

Entrecard "To EC or not to EC"

This post is for satisfied Entrecard members, as well as those considering quitting or actually leaving the program, and folks just curious about it. Some call it "the virtual business card"... but be warned it is time-consuming, unless you're already online doing other things, "the care and feeding of EC becomes a job in itself"...

1 - You have nothing to lose by trying Entrecard. I first encountered EC at a time when my blog traffic suddenly inexplicably fell off a cliff. To this day I have no answer why visitors dropped. I checked everything: loading time, posts appearing in search engines like Google and yahoo, availability of posts listed on digg... nothing was out of order. If anything, my posts were being catalogued and appeared on Google within MINUTES after I published them! I did find a discrepancy most alarming: comparing a daysworth of traffic across three different site metering services, I found a gap of nearly 100 visitors between two of them! Most recently, I notice that certain older posts, dating back to 2006, have remarkable "staying power" on Google, while other posts from 2009 and early 2010 have disappeared from Google, but DO appear on the first search page in Bing. WTF?

2 - What about the quality of entrecard traffic? Well, this is something that has been debated for years. Here's an excellent post dating back to late 2007 on a now-abandoned blog which details one blogger's experience with EC: BE SURE TO READ THE COMMENTS on The Quality of Entrecard traffic. 3 - What's the best way to spend Entrecard credits?

+ Once a week (usually Wednesday) I go through the list of blogs that have dropped ECs on my blog and view their stats. Anyone who has dropped on me for 8 days or more and has a fair cost to advertise (below 500EC) gets a visit from me and I place an ad.

+ Advertise on blogs that advertises on many sites.

A. Go to the Campaign page and click browser.
B. Select “Biggest Advertiser” but don’t set the maximum price. Click Search.
C. Now advertise on any site with a cost out of proportion to those around it. For example, say the top 6 biggest advertisers all cost 1024ec to advertise on, but #7 costs only 64ec. Advertise on the 64ec because they are spending a lot of credits to get their card out there.

For those into calculations, here's another method:

D. Go to the Campaign page and click browser.
E. Select “Most Popular” and set the maximum price to 16ec. Click Search.
F. Now advertise on any site with a number in the top right of the card of 80 or more. (5×16=80) This means you are paying one ec or less for each display of your ad. Obviously choose the highest ones first. EXAMPLE: I purchase a 16ec ad that dispalys a score of 484. That means I am paying 1ec to have my ad viewed 6 times. (484/5) / 16 = 6.0625

4 - To Drop Cards Or Not, Does Entrecard Work? I have found some cool sites that I will continue to visit long after Entrecard is gone (if it goes, that is!). I suppose if you’re actively dropping cards you’ll eventually pick up on some sites worth their weight; you may get better traffic results from leaving good comments on good blogs!

REMEMBER you don't HAVE TO drop 300 EC's a day... just do whatever amount you can once you get started. You can experiment with blogs from different categories to see which ones help drive the most traffic to your blog and which blogs you can form an alliance with.

I've noticed many bloggers see their Alexa rating rise as a result of Entrecard, which may be a good reason to keep it on your blog. But don't rely on EC as your sole source of new traffic: once the card is up you have to get out and hustle: leave comments on other blogs and in forums, and make sure your posts get recognized by Digg, StumbleUpon, Wikio and other blog networking services!

4 - Be Social and Interact

You know already that it is important to give your blog those 5 abovementioned "kicks" - now you also need to get out there and mention your greatest post to others! Tell a friend on myspace or Linked-In; tweet it to particular individual using twitter's "@" feature; mention it in an email to a colleague or add it to your email signature just for a day or two!

5 - Taste the Rainbow that is the Blogosphere

Need ideas? Hop on Global Voices or Drudge or Global Blog to see what everybody is buzzing about - each of these sites represents a snapshot of current events and pop culture!

6 - Keep Your Blog "Light"

Get rid of slow-loading widgets and those that might seek to re-direct your readers elsewhere. NOTHING IS MORE ANNOYING than those "SUBSCRIBE HERE" pageover pop-ups. There are about three blogs I actually tolerate seeing these on, only because I love the bloggers themselves (otherwise they'd be on by X list!) There are many services available that will check your web page load time. Find one you like and use it!

7 - Spread Mucho Linky-Love

People who write great articles should be rewarded! If you run across an article on another blog you really enjoy or find helpful, tell the whole wide world about it: on your blog, on twitter, on any social network, on digg! Even if the author has closed comments, he or she will notice that you have spread the word about a great article. They'll remeber you, sooner or later!

8 - Get Very Intimate

I again call your attention to Ms. Wendy Cheng. If you have a few hours, go back through the multitude of posts on the Xiaxue blog. Here's a gal who has become a superstar celebrity but shares the most intimate details with her readers. Note: I didn't say spill the beans or give up personal details. Just sahre a little intimacy through your posts!

9 - Finish What You've Started

I carry a little green notebook around. I know other bloggers who use cellphone voice memo recorders to capture ideas when they emrge. You just never know when you'll get inspired, so don't let the moment escape! WRITE IT DOWN! Even if it's on a piece of scrap paper or a paer napkin, a few small words could be the seed for what may become your greatest post!

10 - A Time to Sow, A Time to Reap

Don't subject yourself to "sleep deprivation" and the bad things that can happen as a result it (getting fat, heart disease, more likely to catch cold or flu) because you're spending too much time online. Do your thing, prepare your materials, post and share... then, like a great chef, let it all simmer awhile. Get your rest and spend the time you need to spend in "real" life. The "virtual life" will consume you if you let it... if you really wannabee 24/7 on the web, look into automating (i.e. time-released) blog posts and tweets! Heck, your internet persona can live on long after the material you is gone!

Google Plus has started its "pages" feature. This you already know unless you've been offline for an extended time. Have you made a page for your website/blog? http://plus.google.com/pages/create Tip: The blog category is under arts & entertainment.

Once you have a page set up you can add a video to it. I'm not talking about one that just gets added to your stream, but one that stays in your pages info. Once you're page is set up go to it's front page, click the videos tab, and upload a video from your computer. You must share the uploaded video for it to appear in the section AND it will only be available to the circles you shared it with - so I shared mine with the general public. My thinking is that you probably won't want to upload every vlog you make to that section because it's time consuming, but it's a great place for an about video, promotional video, or just a good example of your content.

Google Plus allows you to share videos in your stream at any time with a YouTube link - as expected since Google owns YouTube. ;) Just another way to get more watchers for your video.

HOW TO: Import Your Facebook Contacts To Google+

Here are the steps to migrate your Facebook friends to Google+.

1. Sign up for a Yahoo mail account if you don’t already have one. Log into the account and click on the Contacts tab. There you’ll see a function to import contacts from Facebook. Follow those instructions.

2. Once your contacts are imported click on the drop down box that says “actions.” Choose export all and export to a Yahoo csv file.

3. Now go to Google and log into your gmail account. If you don’t have one you can create one quickly. Since you are interested in using Google+ I’m going to assume you have a Google profile already. Once logged in, click on Contacts and create a new group called Facebook.

4. Select the group and then choose “import contacts.” Browse to where you saved the csv file and choose import. Choose the Facebook group as the destination and click import.

5. Now log into Google+, click on your circles and choose “find and invite.”

That’s it! Now you can add anyone who’s already on Google+ to your circles and invite those that aren’t.

  Connect the phone line cord to the DB-9 COM port and plug the other end of the line into your telephone jack. Turn on the router and the laptop computer.

  Turn on the wireless on the laptop by going to "Control Panel" and selecting "Network Connections." You can also turn on the wireless by locating the small wireless icon (a computer with green curved lines next to it) in the lower right-hand side of the screen. Right-click the icon and select "Turn Wireless On."

  Wait for the laptop to detect the wireless router and connect to it. You may see a prompt that says "Limited Connectivity." In the router's manual, locate the website address to visit to set up the router. Enter this address into your web browser window exactly as it is shown in the manual and press "Enter."

  Follow the on-screen setup instructions for setting up the wireless modem for dial-up. You will need to configure the modem according to the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure the option for "Dial Out for Connection" is selected.

  Open the software for your your dial-up Internet service provider. Click on "Connection Settings" and select "Wireless or Local Area Network." Allow the software to detect the wireless router and click "Connect."

In wikipedia, the internet troll is described as

“An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.”

I encountered this term recently when I was cruising around in Yahoo! Answers. A guy asked this question:
Im a catholic but I hate the Pope and I hate Catholocism. Is that bad?

Somebody said “Troll Alert!” in one of the replies. It seems that trolls are whoever disrupts the pleasant and normal flow of conversation in forums or comment forms. This question doesn’t really deserve a straight answer — it is more of rhetorical. “Is that bad?” seemed to be added just to officially make it into a question. I’ve seen this in youtube comments — commenting just to insult other commentors, without any real purpose of saying something relevant, or vilifying or critiquing the video/post/article in question.

The important point is that nobody should be a viral troll — although I imagine that some people out of extreme emotion probably morph into internet trolls without actually realizing it. Respect other people’s space while you give your 2 cents about the topic at hand. Stick to the topic and be objective. and don’t incite negative buzz just to get attention — it will eventually backfire. Don’t troll through the net, stroll through the net!

Out of curiosity (remember: curiosity killed the troll!) I google the keyword “Viral Troll.” And I ended up finding pretty interesting results:

In summary — the angry troll victim shot back, “you are nothing but a viral TROLL… hows that coming from a “parolee scumbag”?

Troll here is used with so much disgust, it is almost like a modern cuss word. And this is understandable. A TROLL search at youtube yielded this video — a guy calling out to the web public in agony, having been victimized by a heartless, ugly, ruthless viral troll.

My heart goes out to this guy. Let’s help make the world wide web troll-free and truly free.

It is interesting to note that “Troll” more than being a unpopular way to be in Web 2.0, is also not a very popular keyword. SEO’ers wouldn’t have a hard time ranking high on this. Google had no data on the keywords “Viral Troll” because there wasn’t enough data to support it.

And no, it's not a link from Matt Drudge or The New York Times website... nor is it an accumulation of thousands upon thousands of links. Would you like to know what the strongest and the most powerful link is? I'll give you a hint: it's something YOU can easily give but seems as if it is almost impossible to receive. Put simply, you have the power to give it away but getting it back represents a difficult link-building scheme at best!

SEO gurus will most definitely not agree with the adgitizer on this one!

So, cutting to the chase, as one might say, I will now reveal what for me is the best link that any blogger could ever get...

The strongest and most powerful link is

the link with your name as the anchor text.

Let's call it, a "name" link...

The world's most successful bloggers are linked by name. Think about the number of times you have seen links to Xiaxue through the anchor text "Wendy Cheng" or to johnchow.com through "John Chow". Once again I tell you, you can easily get it but in return, it's hard for you to have one yourself.

OK, What's With the Name Link?

Name links by themselves cannot build much seo goodness, BUT they can (and do) build authority, reputation, trust and branding and all the things that you can't even imagine in a single link. It's all there.

popularity among readers
authority among all

I frequently get requests from bloggers begging to link to them through capricious anchor texts like "make money online" or "blogging tips" because they get caught up in the keyword competition. Sometimes they even include the keywords in their very names like "Baraki @ spybytes" for instance. That's all right. Keep in mind that keywords are just a matter of a search engine algorithm usage and not a tool for readership building: sometimes you must choose between which applies best to your standards.

No offense meant for those employing keyword names. This post

certainly has dropped any concerns for seo. I'm musing on my

experienced observations as to how pro bloggers rack up

their links, which in turn, might prove beneficial to others.

Having said that, every time someone links to this blog with the anchor text "adgitizer," it seems more special compared to the hundreds who have linked with "secrets of great blogging". Well of course I'm not setting aside the fact that it had greatly helped in the SERPs results.

The Hardest Link of All

The issue with the name link is that no matter how hard you try and how large your link campaigns go, name links doesn't fall under the category of links that you can easily work or ask for. Either they develop by themselves or they just don't.

branding your blog by picking a particular name
not mixing up keywords with that name
using the name in email signatures

Maybe this is also the reason why I prefer to link to bloggers using specific brand names. Don't you think it's high time you pay attention to building your name links? And by the way, than all of you who have linked to my blog through the anchor text adgitizer.

O.K., it’s hard to be the very first one who publishes a big story… but there are smaller newsworthy stories, maybe even local stories depending on your niche.

25. Publish content on a regular basis.

Come on, one post per week is not much… better would be to post on a daily basis if you can do it.

Zogby Interactive: High Speed Internet Tops Other Technologies as Most Impactful Development of Past Decade

A Zogby International interactive survey finds adults agree that the expansion of high speed internet has had the greatest technological impact on society over the past decade, and it is the technology most believe they cannot live without. The poll of 1,950 adults was conducted from Dec. 8 - Dec. 10, 2010.

Facebook came in a close second (22%) to high speed internet (24%) as the technology having the most impact on society over the past decade. Google was third on that list with 10%. Women (27%) and adults under the age of 55 find Facebook the most impactful while men (27%) and those over 55 say high speed internet has had the greatest impact on society. Adults aged 35-54 are split between Facebook (25%) and high speed internet (24%). Young adults, aged 18-24, find Google (25%) as the second most impactful invention of the past decade, with Facebook (28%) being first.

Of the technologies most say they cannot live without, high speed internet comes in first at 28% and email is the second at 18%. Facebook garnered only 3% among all adults. However, 15% of young adults (aged 18-24) say they cannot live without Facebook.

When no other means of connecting to the Internet is available, mobile workers can use their Bluetooth enabled cell phone as a modem.
An advantage to using Bluetooth is that your phone can remain in your laptop carrying case or pocket and Bluetooth does not require direct line of sight connection.
If your laptop is not already Bluetooth enabled, you can purchase a USB Bluetooth adapter.

Here's How:

1. Turn on the Bluetooth enabled cell phone and turn on the Bluetooth connection software.
2. Make the phone discoverable.
3. In Windows XP on the laptop go to My Bluetooth Places.
4. Select View Devices in Range.
5. After the discovery process is complete, you should see the icon for the cell phone.
6. Right-click on the icon and select Discover Available Services.
7. To connect to your cell phone right-click on the Dial-Up Networking.
8. Select Connect Dial-up networking.
9. The phone will ask if you want to accept the connection request, decline or add to paired.
10. The last step pairs the phone and laptop and performs the connection request.
11. You will be prompted to enter a PIN code to pair up the devices, the PIN is entered in the cell phone.
12. A dialogue box appears asking for user name, password and the phone number of your ISP.
13. Click on the dial button to complete the connection.

Tips:

1. To find the devices in range you can click the Bluetooth menu and select "search for devices" or open Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood and press F5.
2. Pairing a phone and laptop will ensure the connection can be established whenever you require it and you don’t have to go through the set-up process each time. If you do not pair the two devices, you will have to make the phone discoverable each time.

A strong rebound for US-based blogs following the Thanksgiving holiday. Blogs that stumbled and were available at "bargain rates" mid-day Friday are now back up in four figures. Many caught up on dropping late Friday evening after ignoring EC during the holiday and the "black friday" shopping day.

I've just "reserved" a place on search engines by using what I call a "keyword headline" that will attract visitors to this blog for days, weeks, months - even years - to come, whether or not a "Snooki Sex Tape" ever exists!

When you create a truly excellent post, the very first thing you should do is "test" your title: the name you give to your post can make a world of difference later on! HOw do you test it? Go to google. Now look at your post. What is it about, who is it about, and what do you think the majority of people who search for infromation about that particular person or topic are going to be looking for, i.e., how will they phrase that search? Perhaps others have already been looking for it. Google's "preview" will give you a list that should be a good indicator of what you want your post title to include. Now, follow through. Look and see what some of those searches produce. Take it a step further by going to blogsearch.google.com, click on "Search by date" and see if any other bloggers have written about your topic in the last 48 hours. Next stop: www.google.com/trends to see if any keywords from your post appear on the hotlist (or if there are any words you can add to your post to make it fall in line with the hotlist!)

I discovered an article that takes through all of the remaining steps. Although it appears to be aimed at new websites rather than individual posts on existing blogs, the advice it gives is well worth following. IT IS HERE. I have always been an advocate of "duplicate services" - for example, I'm on MySpace AND Facebook - and right now, FB has a big edge over MySpace. I use two comment services - Haloscan AND the standard Blogger.com comments. (You can also comment on this weblog via C-Box). I offer interactive contact via MyBlogLog AND via Google Friend Connect.

Beginning today, I'm "tweeting" via twitter AND FriendFeed AND just by using blogger.com's SMS services. With three ways of bouncing my thoughts into the "lifestream" of things, I'll not worry should any one service temporarily go down or decide to "suspend" me!

The ball is in YOUR court. Take a look at the tools you use within the context of your personal online activities. Take the ones that are most valuable and dear to you and find back-ups.

Are you on MySpace? Open a Facebook account. Are you trying to network through Facebook? Open a Linked In account. On twitter? Open a FriendFeed account. Are you blogging? Open up a "back-up" blog via a different blog services provider. Don't "cross-post" - upload original material (you don't need to update as frequently as your "main" blog, but keep the service up, running and open - just in case "something" happens!

Get the idea? Establish your web presence across multiple services. That way YOU will be less likely to panic or break down when one of those services goes down!
